Before moving in 2005 to Thamesport - the UK's fourth largest container port terminal - Mr Robertson had held the position of Divisional Logistics Manager at Hutchison Port Holdings' Port of Felixstowe, the country's largest container gateway.

A graduate in Business Organisation and a member of the Institute of Logistics, Mr Robertson, aged 50, began his career in commercial management in 1980 and after holding senior positions in several companies including British Gas Services and General Domestic Appliances, entered the ports industry at Felixstowe in 2002.

He takes up his appointment with the Mersey Ports Division of Peel Ports, Britain's second largest ports group, on Wednesday, 11th October.

udha Majumdar, Managing Director of Mersey Ports (Port of Liverpool and the Manchester Ship Canal) said Mr Robertson would bring invaluable experience in container operations and logistics to the Port of Liverpool's expanding container trade.

I am delighted that Iain has joined us at this exciting stage in the development of Liverpool's container operation," he said.

"The establishment of three new container services in the first six months of this year, all on the North Atlantic Trade for which Liverpool is now the leading UK port, reflects the dynamic environment to which Iain will add his own particular qualities.

"He joins us also at a time when we are awaiting the outcome of the Public Inquiry into our application for a Harbour Revision Order to allow the development of a post Panamax container terminal on the River Mersey."
